Built by Veterans. Backed by Community.

Pond Hopper Army Foundation is a veteran-led 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to strengthening veterans, families, and communities through outdoor experiences that foster connection, mentorship, resilience, and purpose.

Pond Hopper Army Foundation didn’t begin in a boardroom.

It began with a simple belief—that a fishing trip could change lives.

In October 2019, a small local fishing community formed around Fort Hood, Texas. What started as anglers sharing ponds quickly became veterans mentoring veterans, families reconnecting outdoors, volunteers serving together, and complete strangers becoming lifelong friends.

As the community grew, so did the opportunity to serve. That vision eventually became the Pond Hopper Army Foundation.

Our Story, One Milestone at a Time

2019

  • A father and son share their first unforgettable fishing memories.
  • A small group of friends forms the Fort Hood Bank Anglers community, planting the seeds for what would become Pond Hopper Army.

2020

  • Members begin sharing knowledge, organizing meetups, and cleaning local waters.
  • First tournament is held at Copperas Cove Lake 3.
  • We become the Fort Hood Pond Hoppers.
  • The iconic Toad Skeleton logo becomes the community’s symbol.

2021

  • Texas "Snow-pacolypse" (Winter Storm Uri) leaves 4.5+ million Texans without heat or power. Members rally to check on one another, strengthening bonds beyond fishing.
  • Monthly Tournaments and community clean ups become more organized.

2022 - 2024

  • La Nina and El Nino ravages the region.
  • Despite droughts, changing conditions, and frequent military moves, the community remains connected through virtual tournaments, cleanups, and new partnerships.
  • Several nonprofits and organizations reach out and collaborations create even more opportunities for the community.

2025

  • When public recreation on Fort Hood faced closure, the community united with local organizations to help preserve access.
  • The community officially becomes Pond Hopper Army, reflecting its continued growth beyond a single installation.
  • Hosts the first Fort Hood Youth Fishing Derby, welcoming more than 80 participants and demonstrating the power of a volunteer-led community.

2026

  • Volunteers receive installation and congressional recognition for their service to the community.
  • Hosts the 2nd Youth & Adaptive Anglers Derby, welcoming more than 200 attendees through support of volunteers, Fort Hood Natural Resources, iSportsman, Local Heroes on the Water, & community donors.
  • Pond Hopper Army Foundation established and recognized as an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) public charity.
